There are many opportunities to support the mission of the Ursuline Sisters besides prayer and volunteer experiences:
There are many opportunities in Charitable Giving Options available to you for how you can support the mission of the Ursuline Sisters. Let us name the different categories, reminding you that you need to check with your tax expert to explain for the best options for you and the tax consequences of each choice.
- It may be possible to take a federal income tax deduction of up to 50% of adjusted gross income for cash gifts. Other types of gifts are subject to different limits (20% or 30%, depending on the person’s income, other deductions, and other factors).
- Gifts may also be deductible from state taxes
Gifts of Stock
- It may be possible to avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value of stock
In some cases it may be possible for an income tax deduction for the full market value. Bequests
- You become a member of the St. Ursula Society
- You must use our legal name "Ursuline Society and Academy of Education"
- Your estate qualifies for tax charitable deduction
- For federal tax purposes the entire bequest amount is used for deduction
Note: State law may not allow it though.
Gifts of Life Insurance
- You can purchase a new policy or donate a current policy
- You can amend an existing policy
- You can pay some of the premiums and then give it
- For term, you deduct only the cost of the premiums. If it’s whole, you can deduct the cash value of the policy as well as the premiums.
- You can choose to continue paying premiums and continue taking deductions
- To receive deductions, designate Ursuline Society and Academy of Education as both owner and beneficiary of the policy
Note: There are a number of different strategies from which to choose, as well as a number of tax rules and differing state laws that may influence a donor’s decision. If you are considering a substantial gift of life insurance to a charity, ask your attorney or tax advisor to help you decide on the best approach.
