| 2010 Ursuline Sisters' Card Party a Success! LOUISVILLE, Ky (September 25, 2010) - More than 300 people filled the Sacred Heart Gym on Saturday, September 25, to take part in the “Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party: A Day of Family Fun and Games.” The event featured hundreds of raffle prizes, a white elephant sale, and concessions. The Card Party is an opportunity for the community to give back to the sisters who have spent their lives in ministry working with the poor, providing spiritual guidance, educating children, and much more.  All proceeds from the Card Party are used for the care and needs of the senior Ursuline Sisters. Hundreds showed up to support the sisters by participating in the event, volunteering their time, or donating money or prizes to make the event possible. WAVE-TV personality Dawne Gee was on hand to call out the names of the raffle prize winners. The Card Party which has taken place over Thanksgiving weekend for the past decade was moved to September by the committee that oversees the event. This is a return to the roots of the card party. The first one was held on September 27, 1979, when it was still called the Marion Home Card Party. Since then, the event was moved around to different times of the year. | 2010 Card Party: Hundreds of Gift Certificates and Prizes Up for Grabs LOUISVILLE, Ky (September 22, 2010) – The Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party will take place this Saturday, September 25, from 1 to 4 p.m.. The annual event raises money to provide for the care of the senior Ursuline Sisters. It will be held in the Sacred Heart Academy Gym located at 3175 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY, 40206. The price of admission is just $5 and includes coffee and dessert. Doors open at Noon. All media is welcome to attend and cover the event. The Card Party, which was named the “Best Fundraiser of the Year” by KAHSA and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009, will feature hundreds of prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, including gift cards and gift certificates from: Churchill Downs, Captain’s Quarters, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Derby Dinner Playhouse, Glassworks, Graeter's Ice Cream, Lazer Blaze, Marengo Cave, Newport Aquarium, Spinelli’s Pizzeria, R & R Limo, Rafferty’s, The Cheesecake Factory, Toast on Market, The Louisville Zoo, Z Salon and Spa, Za’s Pizza Pub, J. Harrods, Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Galt House, The Fishery, Irish Rover, In Bloom Again, Panera Bread, and many, many more. There will also be a cake wheel; a 50/50 cash pot; lunch items for sale; and a White Elephant. Each year hundreds of people come out for the event. Tables are provided so families and friends can bring games to play together while waiting to hear their name called for their choice of hundreds of prizes. New Date for 2010 Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party LOUISVILLE, Ky (May 18, 2010) – The Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party is taking place during a new time of year! The annual event raises money to provide for the care of the senior Ursuline Sisters. It will take place this year on Saturday, September 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Gym located at 3175 Lexington Road. Doors open at Noon. The event, which was awarded the “Best Fundraiser of the Year” by KAHSA and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009, usually takes place on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving holiday. However, to allow even more families and individuals to attend, the Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party Committee is trying a new date. The event will feature hundreds of prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, including hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards and certificates. The Card Party will also have a cake wheel, a 50/50 cash pot, food and drinks, including a free dessert and coffee with admission, and plenty of games. The price for entry is just five dollars. Tables are provided so families and friends can bring games to play together while waiting to hear if they’ve won their choice of prizes. | Annual Event Marks 30 Year Anniversary with Name Change LOUISVILLE, Ky (August 10, 2009) – The Marian Home Card Party turns 30 in 2009, and the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville are celebrating the important anniversary with a new name, new games, and hundreds of new prizes. We’re pleased to announce the “Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party: A Day of Family Fun and Games” will be held on Saturday, November 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Ursuline Campus. The funds raised during the annual event are used to provide for the needs of our senior sisters. The first Card Party was held at Marian Home in September of 1979. It’s recorded in the official annals of Marian Home with a simple, typed out notation that reads: “Sept. 27 The Marian Home Crafts department had a card party – it was a grand success. Results $845.94.” In 1981, another notation reads: “The Crafts Department sponsored a Card Party in the dining room at Marian Home. A sizable group of people attended and it seemed to be a good spending crowd.” Because of those growing crowds, the fundraiser was eventually moved to Sacred Heart Academy’s cafeteria. It was moved a second time after the school’s new gym was built, which was completed in 1999. The card party is still held today in SHA’s gym. As part of the 30 year celebration, this year’s Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party will feature more ways to win hundreds of prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, a kids’ area, lunch items, a white elephant sale, a cake wheel and much more. Tables are provided so families and friends can bring games to play together while waiting to hear if they’ve won their choice of prizes. The Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party took place on Saturday, November 28, 2009, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Academy Gym located at 3175 Lexington Road on the Ursuline Campus. Doors and concessions will open at Noon. The price of admission is just five dollars and includes dessert and coffee. Eighth graders and under are just three dollars.
