Sister M. Paulette Marchetti February 26, 1933 - November 16, 2011
Sister M. Paulette Marchetti, OSU, 78, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Mercy Sacred Heart Village in Louisville, KY. Sister Paulette was born in Kulpmont, PA and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1952.
In Louisville during the early to mid-sixties, Sister Paulette taught at St. Peter, St. Elizabeth, and St. George schools, and from 1984 to 1986, she taught at St. Vincent de Paul School. She also ministered in schools in Madison, IN and in Wheeling and Morgantown, WV. Sister Paulette was the Housemother at St. Joseph Home from 1970 to 1972, and then served for 10 years as a teacher’s aide at the Ursuline Montessori School and volunteered for two years at the Ursuline Child Development Center, all in Louisville.
Sister Paulette is survived by a brother, Joe Marchetti of Hume, VA; two sisters: Patricia Clawges of Morgantown, WV and Gloria Hessler of Alexandria, VA; along with nieces, nephews, and the Ursuline community.

Sister Juliana Corby October 12, 1917 - September 3, 2011
Sister Juliana Corby, OSU, 93, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Juliana was born in Louisville, KY, and entered religious life with the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1935.
In Louisville, Sister Juliana taught at Holy Trinity, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady Help of Christians, St. Anthony, St. George, St. Helen and St. Martin schools. She served as principal at Holy Trinity School from 1965 to 1979, Sacred Heart Model School from 1979 to 1981 and Most Blessed Sacrament School from 1985 to 1988. Sister Juliana also taught in schools in Lompoc, CA; Evansville, IN; North Platte, O’Connor and Sidney, NE. Her ministry included pastoral care at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish from 1988 to 1996 in Louisville, KY.
Sister Juliana is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Ursuline family.

Sister (M. Julia) Mary Frances Werner April 22, 1926 - August 27, 2011
Sister (M. Julia) Mary Frances Werner, OSU, 85, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Mary Frances was born in Louisville, KY to parents who had emigrated from Germany with their other six children. She was the only one born in the United States. She entered religious life with the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1945. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, received a B.A. in Education from Ursuline College, and an M.S. in Religious Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.
In Louisville, Sister Mary Frances taught at Holy Trinity, St. Elizabeth and St. Helen. She taught in schools in Cumberland, MD; Evansville, IN; North Platte, NE; and Pittsburgh, PA. Her ministry also included serving as a Pastoral Associate at St. Helen Parish, as a Pastoral Care Minister at Marian Home, and as the coordinator of Eucharistic Ministers at Norton Suburban Hospital, all in Louisville, KY. Additionally, she served as a Director of Religious Education at schools in Cumberland, Pittsburgh and Louisville.
Sister Mary Frances is survived by a niece, Mary Theresa Oliver and husband Don Oliver, great nieces and nephews, and her Ursuline family.

Sister Carmelita Grantz, OSU August 25, 1921 - June 20, 2011
Sister Carmelita Grantz, OSU, age 89, died June 20, 2011, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Carmelita was born in New Albany, Indiana and entered religious life with the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1940. She received a B.A. in Education from Ursuline College in 1958, an M.A. in Education from Creighton University in 1963 and a M.A. in Psychology from Catherine Spalding College now Spalding University in 1976.
Sister Carmelita taught at Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Athanasius, St. Boniface, St. Elizabeth, St. George, St. Helen, St. Raphael, St. Rita and St. Therese schools. She also taught in schools in North Platte, Nebraska and in Columbia, South Carolina. Her ministries included Social Worker, Counselor and Director of Social Services at St. Joseph Home in Louisville. She volunteered at Marian Home, the Ursuline Motherhouse, Kentucky School for the Blind, Maloney Center, Dare to Care, Hospice (Hosparus) and Suburban Hospital in Louisville. She is survived by her sisters, Clara Quinkert (Patrick) and Bertha Bottorff, her cousin Reverend Leon Grantz, C.P., nieces, nephews and her Ursuline family.

Sister Margaret Mary Schwartz , OSU December 9, 1916 - May 22, 2011
Sister Margaret Mary Schwartz, OSU, age 94, died May 22, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital. Sister Margaret Mary was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and entered religious life with the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1935.
Sister Margaret Mary taught at St. Joseph Orphanage, St. Elizabeth, St. Boniface and St. Martin schools and Sacred Heart Model School in Louisville. She also taught in schools in North Platte and Omaha, Nebraska and in Columbia, South Carolina. She was an Activities Assistant and Director of the Crafts program at Marian Home in Louisville from 1981 to 1993, then the Director of Arts and Crafts at the Ursuline Motherhouse from 1994 until 2005. Most recently she was the Director of the Ursuline Sisters Craft Shop.
She is survived by her brother Omer Schwartz and her niece Pat Weland in Omaha, Nebraska and her Ursuline family.

Sister Vivian Dreisbach, OSU August 24, 1915 - March 10, 2011
Sister Mary Vivian Dreisbach, OSU, age 95, died March 10, 2011, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Vivian, as she was known, was born in Pewee Valley, KY, and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1935.
Sister Vivian spent the majority of her ministry in Louisville. She taught at St. Boniface, St. George, Holy Spirit, and St. Helen schools as well as Angela Merici High School. In addition, she served briefly in North Platte and Omaha, NE., Jackson, MS; and at St. Michael school in Madison, IN.
Sister Vivian also ministered at Sacred Heart Academy from 1962 until 1974 as an English teacher, head of the English Department, and Dean of Students. She then taught at Sacred Heart Model School from 1974 until 1982. Sister Vivian later served at Marian Home as a nurse’s aide and handled convent duties at Sacred Heart Academy Convent. She lived out her ministry in prayer at Mercy Sacred Heart Village.
Sister Vivian is survived by her sister, Ruth Dreisbach, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fultz and Dorris Dreisbach, nieces and nephews, and her Ursuline family.

Sister Clarissa Fitzmayer, OSU February 8, 1924 - February 24, 2011
Sister M. Clarissa Fitzmayer, OSU, age 87, died February 24, 2011, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Clarissa was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1941.
Sister Clarissa ministered at St. Francis of Assisi, St. Helen, St. Elizabeth, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Raphael schools in Louisville. She was on the faculty at the Ursuline School of Music for 22 years, from 1973 until 1995. Sister Clarissa also served at Marian Home as a staff member from 1995 until 2000. In addition, she taught in schools in North Platte, Sidney, and Omaha, NE., and in Columbia, S.C. Sister Clarissa served out her ministry in prayer at Mercy Sacred Heart Village.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Fitzmayer, sister-in-law, Norma Fitzmayer, her nieces and nephews, and her Ursuline family.

Sister Rachel Fleckenstein, OSU October 13, 1924 - December 30, 2010
Sister Mary Rachel Fleckenstein, OSU, age 86, died Thursday, December 30, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village in Louisville. Sister Rachel, as she was known, was born in Cumberland, Maryland, and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1943.
Sister Rachel served at St. Elizabeth, St. George, and Sacred Heart Academy, all in Louisville, early in her ministries. She taught Spanish at Angela Merici School from 1960 until 1967 before answering the call to minister in Lima, Peru. In 1971, Sister Rachel returned to her hometown of Cumberland where she taught at SS. Peter and Paul and St. Mary schools until 1989.
After caring for her aging mother for several years, she served in Louisville from 1995 until 2005 as a tutor and substitute teacher at Sylvan Learning Center, Sacred Heart Academy, and Sacred Heart Model School. Sister Rachel lived out her ministry in prayer at Mercy Sacred Heart Village.
Sister Rachel is preceded in death her sister Ann Kolb. She is survived by her sisters Margaret Brannon and Katherine Hunt and by her Ursuline family.

Sister Esther Fehringer, OSU May 19,1918 - December 29, 2010
Sister Esther Fehringer, OSU, age 92, died Wed., Dec. 29, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Esther, formerly known as Sister Philomena, was born in Peetz, Colorado, and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1938.
Sister Esther ministered at Holy Spirit, St. Therese, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Ann, Sacred Heart Academy, and Ursuline Academy, all in Louisville. She taught Home Economics at SHA for 13 years, from 1953 until 1957 and again from 1960 until 1969.
Sister Esther was then called to Nebraska where she served as a pastoral minister for 37 years in Grand Island, Hershey, Paxton, Sutherland, and Sidney. She lived out her ministry in prayer at Mercy Sacred Heart Village.
Sister Esther is preceded in death by her brothers Jerry, Irwin, and Clem Fehringer and her sisters Mary Ann Hungerford, Marge Huss, and Philomae Smith. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Sophie Fehringer; George and Janice Fehringer; and Jack and Mary Ann Fehringer. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Treinen; Catherine Zach; Ursuline Sister Clara Fehringer; and her Ursuline family.

Sister Mary Blanche Spriggs, OSU, age 93, died September 23, 2010, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village in Louisville. Sister Blanche, as she was known, was born in Cumberland, MD, and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1933.
Sister Blanche ministered at St. Elizabeth, St. George, Holy Trinity and St. Raphael schools, Sacred Heart Academy, and Ursuline College, all in Louisville. She also served briefly in Camden, MS; Morgantown, WV; and Cumberland, MD, in her early ministries.
Sister Blanche served as the Director of Food Services at the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Louisville from 1969 until 1975, and at the Ursuline Motherhouse from 1962 to 1969 and from 1975 until 1977. She worked at Marian Home as a Nurse Assistant from 1977 until 1988 and then served as a volunteer there until 2005. Sister Blanche continued her ministry in prayer at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Spriggs and his wife Janet, nieces and nephews, and her Ursuline family.

Sister Amelia Dues, OSU, age 90, died June 17, 2010, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. She was born in Louisville, KY, and entered the Ursuline Sister of Louisville in 1941.
Sister Amelia taught at Our Mother of Sorrows, St. Rita, St. Joseph, and St. Raphael schools in Louisville. She later ministered as principal at St. Therese School for 15 years and served in the archives of the Ursuline Sisters from 1987 to 2001. Sister Amelia also served at St. Mary School in Jackson, MS, for ten years and at St Michael School in Madison, IN, for three. She lived out her ministry in prayer at Mercy Sacred Heart Village.
Sister Amelia was preceded in death by sisters, Ursuline Sister Georgeline Dues and Georgina Huelsmann, and brother, Theodore Dues. She is survived by sister-in-law, Mary Dues, a niece, several nephews, friends, and her Ursuline family.

Sister M. Laurana Burke, OSU, age 91, died April 14, 2010, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Laurana was born in Cumberland, MD, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1938.
Sister Laurana began her ministries in Louisville teaching at Holy Trinity, St. Ann, and St. Peter schools. Sister Lillian Ann Brown, OSU August 26, 1930 - March 7, 2010
Sister Lillian Ann Brown, OSU, age 79, died March 7, 2010, at Jewish Hospital. Sister Lillian, formerly known as Sister Gilbert, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1951.
Sister Lillian taught math at Sacred Heart Academy, Angela Merici High School, St. Joseph, and St. Rita schools. She began working in the Office of Finance for the Ursuline Sisters in 1970 and served as director of that office from 1981 to 1987.
Sister Lillian then served in the Office of Catholic Schools and the Archdiocese of Louisville in accounting roles during the 90’s and later ministered at Catholic Charities, SAGE Resources, Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, and Marian Home.

Sister Josita Kippes, OSU December 14, 1910 - March 2, 2010
Sister Josita Kippes, OSU, age 99, died March 2, 2010, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Josita was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1927.
In the early part of her ministries, Sister Josita served in nearly a dozen schools in Kentucky and Indiana. She ministered at St. Boniface, St. Ann, St. Martin, St. Therese, and St. Anthony schools, and at St. Joseph Orphanage all in Louisville; St. Rita in Okolona, KY; St. Aloysius in Shepherdsville, KY; and St. Mary and Michael in Madison, IN. In addition, she taught at St. Mary in Cumberland, MD, and spent 30 years serving in schools and parishes in Conemaugh and Johnstown, PA.

Sister Dolora Stueve, OSU, age 97, died January 8, 2010, at Marian Home. Sister Dolora was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1936.
Sister Dolora ministered at St. Francis of Assisi, St. Vincent de Paul, St. George, and served as the principal of St. Ann School in Louisville, KY. She also taught music at St. Boniface in Evansville, IN, and ministered at schools in Camden, MS; Omaha, NE; and Columbia, SC. She lived out her ministry in prayer at Marian Home.

Sister Vera Gardner, OSU February 5, 1922 - January 7, 2010
Sister Vera Gardner, OSU, age 87, died January 7, 2010, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Sister Vera, formerly known as Sister Evangelista, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1941.
Sister Vera served at Our Lady of Lourdes, Holy Trinity, and Sacred Heart Model School in Louisville early in her ministries. She also served at Cardinal Newman High School in South Carolina for 26 years and taught at schools in Evansville, IN, Jackson, MS, and Pittsburgh, PA.
During her semi-retirement years, Sister Vera was appointed to the Jefferson County Foster Care Review Board, began a Christmas stocking program for children of incarcerated parents, and performed various services at Kentuckiana Children’s Center and at Marian Home.

Sister Elizabeth Spencer, OSU, age 90, died December 9, 2009, at Marian Home. Sister Elizabeth, formerly known as Sister Gregory, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1937.
Sister Elizabeth began her ministries at St. Joseph Home. She then served at the Ursuline Motherhouse and Angela Merici High School in food services. Sister Elizabeth also ministered in nursing at Nazareth Home from 1977 until 1985 and then at Marian Home from 1986 until 1996 before returning to the Motherhouse.

Sister Mary Ann Huber, OSU, age 80, died November 18, 2009, at Marian Home. Sister Mary Ann, formerly known as Sister Dorothea, was born in Louisville, KY, and entered the Ursuline Community in 1947.
Sister Mary Ann ministered at St. George, Holy Trinity, Sacred Heart Model School, and St. Helen schools in Louisville, and at Blessed Sacrament school in Omaha, Nebraska. She also served as secretary and a teacher at the Ursuline Montessori School and continued her ministries as secretary in the Office of the President for the Ursuline Sisters until 2008.

Sister Betty Albers, OSU October 3, 1941 - May 28, 2009 Sister Betty Albers, OSU, age 67, died May 28, 2009, at Marian Home. Sister Betty, formerly known as Sister Jeanne Therese, was born in Louisville and entered the Ursuline Community in 1961.
From 1969 until 1971, Sister Betty taught at Sacred Heart Model School and Blessed Sacrament School in Louisville. In 1982, she traveled to Peru to minister to the people of Callao and Cajamarca. She returned to Louisville 18 years later where she served as a volunteer at the Ursuline Motherhouse and later continued her ministry of prayer at Marian Home. Sister Betty also taught in schools in Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and Ohio.

Sister M. Elissa Adams, OSU November 24, 1919 - February 20, 2009
Sister M. Elissa Adams, died February 20, 2009 at Marian Home. Sister Elissa was born in Louisville and entered the Ursuline Community in 1938.
Sister Elissa began her ministries at St. Boniface in Evansville, Indiana, but she spent most of her time as an Ursuline Sister teaching Christian Living in Louisville.
She served at Sacred Heart Academy, St. Helen, St. Rita, Holy Spirit, St. Anthony, and Our Lady Lourdes schools, and Angela Merici High School. Sister Elissa also taught at Watterson College, and, over an 18 year period, served as a teacher, lecturer and then supervisor of student teachers at the University of Louisville. She left the university in 2003 and continued her ministry in prayer at Marian Home.
Sister Elissa also ministered in Cumberland, Maryland, at SS. Peter and Paul school from 1945 to 1948, followed by a year of service at St Mary school before her ministries called her to South Carolina, Nebraska, and then back to Kentucky.

Sister Mary Alvera Neser, OSU, age 90, died February 3, 2009 at Marian Home. Sister Alvera, as she was known, was born in Louisville and entered the Ursuline Community on July 2, 1936.
Sister Alvera taught Christian living in Louisville for most of her life. She served at Our Mother of Sorrows, St. Peter Claver, Holy Trinity, St. Helen, St. Rita, St. Leo, St. Raphael, and Most Blessed Sacrament School. In addition, she taught at St. Boniface in Evansville, Indiana, for one year.

Sister Mary Nicholas Stuber OSU, age 82, died January 25, 2009 at Marian Home. Sister Nicholas, as she was known, was born in Louisville and entered the Ursuline Community in 1946.
Sister Nicholas served at nearly a dozen schools in Louisville and Indiana. She taught at St. George, Ursuline Academy, St. Raphael, St. Bonifice, Our Lady Help of Christians, Holy Cross and Providence High Schools, St. Mary in Madison, Indiana, and she was at St. Angela Merici High School for 17 years.
Sister Nicholas’ ministries also took her to in Columbia, South Carolina, where she served from 1961-67 at Cardinal Newman High School and in 1957-58 at its predecessor, Catholic High School. In addition, she taught at schools in Maryland and Nebraska.

Sister Eulalia Faller, OSU, age 102, died November 19, 2008 at Marian Home in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born in Louisville and entered the Ursuline Community in 1922.
Sister Eulalia began her early ministries at schools in Louisville, Kentucky, including St. Peter, St. Boniface, Holy Spirit, St. Elizabeth, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Anthony. She taught fifth and sixth graders at St. Francis of Assisi in Louisville from 1970 until 1972 and later served at St. Aloysius School in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, from 1972 until 1990, as first a teacher and then a librarian. When Sister Eulalia retired she helped with hospitality for funerals until she was 95 years old and then continued her ministry through prayer.

Sister Marian Wolfschlag, OSU, age 88, died October 22, 2008 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY. Sister Marian was born in Madison, Indiana, and entered the Ursuline Community in 1937.
Sister Marian was the principal of Sacred Heart Model School from 1963 until 1969 and again from 1972 until 1979. Her ministry also included work as a Director of Personnel and Professional Development of the Ursuline Sisters in Louisville and a nursing assistant and later volunteer at Marian Home. In addition, she served as a principal and teacher at schools in Columbia, South Carolina.

March 27, 1920 - August 21, 2008
Sister Ernestine Davis, OSU, age 88, died August 21, 2008 at Marian Home. Sister Ernestine was born in Cumberland, Maryland, and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1953.
Sister Ernestine taught at Ursuline Academy, St. Rita and St. Martin in Louisville. She also taught in schools in West Virginia for more than a decade and was the principal at St. Francis Central High School in Morgantown in the early 1980’s. She worked at Bishop Walsh High School in Cumberland, Maryland, from 1985 until 1992 and taught at schools in Nebraska.

September 7, 1908 - March 24, 2008
Sister Mary Xavier Laemmle, OSU, age 99, died March 24, 2008 at Marian Home. Sister Mary Xavier was born in Louisville and entered the Ursuline Community in 1930.
Sister Mary Xavier taught at St. Peter, St. Rita and Our Mother of Sorrows schools in Louisville as well as Sacred Heart Academy and Watterson College. She also taught at Shawe Memorial High School in Madison, IN, St. Peter and Cardinal Newman schools in Columbia, SC, Bishop Walsh and St. Mary schools in Cumberland, MD, and Blessed Sacrament School in Omaha, NE, and St. Patrick in Sidney, NE. She worked in the Office of Ursuline Life for several years and moved to Marian Home in 2000.
Sister Mary Xavier was the 8 th child of 15. She is survived by her brother A.J. Laemmle, a resident the Little Sisters of the Poor, her sister Joan Riehl, who is at Franciscan Healthcare Center, numerous nieces and nephews and her Ursuline family.

Sister Anna Mae Johnston, OSU, (the former Sister Leoba), age 84 , died May 7, 2007 at Marian Home. Sister Anna Mae was born in 1922 and entered the Ursuline Community in 1942.
A speech pathologist, Sister was on the staff of the Ursuline Speech Clinic (1977-1996), Easter Seals of Louisville (1969-1971), and the Commission For Children With Special Health Care Needs (1971-1972). She also provided speech therapy under Title I for the Louisville Board of Education (1972-1975) and at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital (1975-1976). As an elementary school teacher, Sister taught in Louisville at St. Therese, St. Boniface, Holy Trinity, Holy Spirit, St. Rita and Our Mother of Sorrows schools and in North Platte, Sidney and Omaha, Nebraska. She is survived by two sisters, Rita Howell and Mary Hibbs, of Louisville, nephews and her Ursuline family.Please send expressions of sympathy to the Ursuline Sisters Development Fund. |

Sister Mary Catherine Callahan, OSU (the former Sister Vianney), age 83 , died January 11, 2007 at Marian Home. Sister Mary Catherine was born in 1923 and entered the Ursuline Community in 1941.
She taught at St. Therese and St. Leo in Louisville. She also taught in Evansville, IN, Jackson, MS and Pittsburgh, PA. She is survived by four cousins: Jane Perge, Alice Wilson, Rosemary Kullman and Sister Andrea Callahan, OSU, and her Ursuline family.
