Background:
Christian Help of Mingo County has its roots in the Christian Help in Morgantown, WV, begun by Sister Thecla Shiel, OSU in 1975 and operated by Sister Mary Brendan from 1982-1994. In 1994, Sister Mary Brendan moved to Kermit, WV and began a new Christian Help, which was located in East Kermit until 1999 when it relocated to Kermit.

Information:
Christian Help is a non-profit agency that gives assistance to the needy of Mingo County with emergency provisions, financial aid, clothing, furniture, household items, transportation, eyeglasses, dentures, etc.

Volunteers are always welcome and when they are able to come to the site/ activities include:

assisting in sorting and hanging of clothing (a constant need and good for a short-term visit.)
preparing food orders for those requesting them (good for a bit longer visit, since it involves learning a few things),
visiting selected homes/ especially of the elderly to see if their needs are being met
serving at the reception desk and/or assisting clients
at Christmas, preparing for the toy/food distribution (Dec. 20-22) and/or participating in the distribution (usually Dec. 22) - many helpers needed.

From afar/ those who wish to support this ministry can:

send a monthly donation (money is always the greatest need),
have a drive for children's clothes (and bring them/ if possible),
do research - we always need work clothes.. .see if companies whose employees wear uniforms have any they want to get rid of,
try to get Christian Help considered on a parish tithing list\
at Christmas, send new clothing for any age or gender child.
